Dominica from the Dominican Republic told me, “I can find no pictures on Abraham Lincoln. “ She had chosen this president as one of the five people she was doing for the term project. She was a middle aged immigrant who spoke English fluently. I imagine that they do teach Abraham Lincoln as part of world history in that country. This incident took place before the Internet. I told her, “Good manners prevent me from laughing out loud.” At our next class meeting, Dominica told me she had found pictures on Abraham Lincoln. What this complaint told me was that she was too lazy to go the library or the encyclopedia or she was unaware of their existences!
