I have to gag when the people that hire us denounce the very system that they are part of. The more they say love labor, the more they don’t practice what they preach. I inevitably find the more left wing a professor is on the issue, the more right wing he in is reality. It is the nature of the beat. The boss can never pay low enough but he wants to feel good that the worker feels happy.
Unions are dominated by full-timers who screw the part-timers in order to enhance their positions. At some colleges like NYU and Princeton, every college salary of the full-timers is individually negotiated. NYU smashed its adjunct union getting a favorable NLRB ruling that the adjuncts are merely graduate students being trained in the profession. True, they might teach for decades, but they are being trained.
